About Artwork
A photograph of the slime mold’s growth is captured every 30 seconds over a period of 26 hours, then composited into a 3-minute moving image. Using Max/MSP/Jitter, the visual data generated by the organism is captured and processed in real time. Through Jitter and the OpenCV computer vision library, the slime mold’s trajectory, spatial coordinates, and motion data are extracted and separated into multiple streams of MIDI signals, which are routed into The Grid modular environment in Bitwig Studio.These MIDI signals are subsequently translated into waveform parameters that control sound synthesis. Four independent waveform channels are processed and layered to generate a dynamic sonic composition directly derived from the biological behavior and growth patterns of the organism.
每 30 秒拍攝⼀張黏菌生長的照片,拍攝 26 小時後期合成 3 分鐘的影像。使用 Max/MSP/Jitter 即時擷取並處理黏菌生長的影像,然後透過 Jitter 和 openCV 視覺分析庫將其軌蹟的座標資料、運動資料分軌輸出 Midi 訊號到 Bitwig 的 the grid 模組環境,從而將 Midi 訊號轉換為控制聲音合成參數的波形資料,對 4 條波形進行處理最終生成聲音。
Sun Fangzheng was born in Weihai, Shandong, China, in 1991. In 2021, he received his Master’s degree from the School of Experimental Art at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA). His practice focuses on the relationships between humans and other living beings, as well as the connections between humanity and the natural world. Working across multiple media—including video, sound, and installation—he explores ecological perception, interspecies entanglements, and evolving technological conditions.
Selected exhibitions include Asia Digital Art Exhibition (2021, Times Art Museum, Beijing) and The Posthuman Turn: Cybernetic Serendipity Revisited — CAC Special Project, Second Installment (2019, Chronus Art Center, Shanghai), in which he participated as part of a collective project.
孫方正,1991 年生於山東威海。 2021 年碩士研究生畢業於中央美術學院實驗藝術學院。關注人與其他生物、人與自然關係等多項議題,以影像、聲音、裝置等多種媒材進行創作。展覽經驗包括:《亞洲數位藝術展》(2021,北京時代美術館)、《後人類轉向:再遇控制論|聯合工作室特別計畫第二期》,作為小組成員作品參與 (2019,上海 CAC 新時線媒體藝術中心)。
